Can I Work During Outpatient Rehab?

An outpatient treatment program is a perfect option for a person that has full-time or even part-time work or school responsibilities because we can help you to develop a treatment plan that does not infringe on these important responsibilities. If you do work or go to school, we recommend that you let our intake team know about your schedule when you first reach out to us. If your schedule happens to change during the course of your recovery, just let us know and we will do everything that we can to accommodate these changes.

What is Outpatient Drug Rehab Like?

One of the popular questions that many people who are considering outpatient treatment have revolved around what outpatient drug rehab will be like. This is especially true for a person that may not have been through the treatment process before. The focus of your time in outpatient treatment will be to determine and address the root cause of your addiction. The root cause of addiction can vary from person to person. For instance, if you experienced a traumatic event in your childhood that was not addressed during your childhood, it’s possible that this event may stay with you and manifest into an addiction simply because you don’t know how to deal with the emotional challenges that trauma can present.

There is always the possibility that you may experience trauma later in life. Similar to childhood trauma, if you do not receive the right type of psychological support for trauma during your adult life, you may turn toward drugs to compensate for what you may be thinking or feeling. Participating in different forms of therapy during outpatient treatment will help you to address these traumas so that you can manage them in such a way where you won’t feel as though you need to turn to a substance just to get through your day.

What to Expect During Outpatient Rehab?

It’s important to understand that when you come to The Source, your experience in treatment will be personalized to suit your needs. One of the treatment options that we offer is an intensive outpatient program. In comparison to a partial hospitalization program which requires a minimum of 25 hours per week in therapy, an IOP rehab only requires a commitment of nine hours per week. Also, you will be able to live off-campus during the course of your treatment plan. If you need something that is even more flexible, you can opt to work through our general outpatient program. A general outpatient program only requires an hourly commitment of four hours of therapy per week. This entails at least three hours of group therapy and an hour of individual therapy.

Although therapy, in general, will play a central role in your recovery, group therapy and individual therapy may take precedence in certain ways. Group therapy is very similar to attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in the sense that you will have the opportunity to speak with and interact with other people that are working through their own recovery program. This is an excellent way to build and develop your system of support. Although it may take you some time to feel comfortable sharing about your life in a group type of environment, once you do, you will come to realize that there are others that have experienced something similar which can help you to feel more at ease with the premise of group therapy.

Individual therapy, on the other hand, is a more personalized form of therapy because you will meet in a one-on-one setting with a member of your treatment team. This form of therapy helps you to talk about particularly challenging times in your life in an individualized setting. One-on-one therapy is also a great way to talk about how you feel as though your treatment plan is progressing. If any changes need to be made, your treatment team can accommodate those at this time.

Another form of therapy that you may experience during outpatient treatment is family therapy. Unfortunately, your family may also experience distress during the time that you’re in active addiction. As a result, they may find it helpful to participate in this form of therapy so that your family unit as a whole can begin to heal from this terrible disease.
