Municipalities Bordering Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Fort Lauderdale Borders These Municipalities

Fort Lauderdale is the largest city in Broward County, Florida, and borders seven municipalities: Tamarac, Oakland Park, Wilton Manors, Plantation, Davie, Dania Beach, and Pompano Beach. It covers 35 square miles, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and is interrupted by a canal cutting through the northwestern section of the city.

Northwestern Fort Lauderdale

The northwestern section of Fort Lauderdale remains separate from the remainder of the city. Here, the Cypress Creek Canal cuts through the city as the canal flows under I-95. This part of Fort Lauderdale borders the cities of Tamarac and Oakland Park and is situated on their south sides.

Tamarac

Tamarac is the westernmost city in northern Broward County. It extends from the western border of Fort Lauderdale and continues to the edge of Everglades National Park, the sprawling wildlife-conservation area known as “the river of grass.”

Oakland Park

Oakland Park lies to the north of Fort Lauderdale. Its eastern section also curves around the western border of Fort Lauderdale.

Wilton Manors

Most of Fort Lauderdale’s north side borders Wilton Manors, known as the Island City, because it is surrounded by water on all four sides.

Plantation

The city of Plantation is just west of Fort Lauderdale. It is surrounded by several cities, including Davie – one of the municipalities bordered by Fort Lauderdale – to the south.

Davie

The city of Davie is southern Broward’s westernmost city. It starts at the western edge of Fort Lauderdale and ends at the Everglades.

Dania Beach

Dania Beach is located on the southeast border of Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale is bordered by two other cities: Davie to the west and Hollywood to the south and east. The Atlantic Ocean also lies on Dania Beach’s eastern edge.

Pompano Beach

The city of Pompano Beach is on Fort Lauderdale’s northern border and is south of Deerfield Beach. It extends from Coconut Creek to its west and goes all the way east to the beach.
