What is Alcohol Detox Like?

An alcohol detox program is focused on helping you through your first few days of sobriety. Unfortunately, those days typically entail combating withdrawal symptoms. When your body and mind begin to realize that it will no longer consume your drink of choice, it goes into somewhat of a tailspin. As a result, there is typically a physical and psychological reaction that results in the development of withdrawal symptoms.

During your time at a detox facility, you will be taken care of by professionals that are specifically trained to help you manage the withdrawal symptoms that you will experience. Although it may seem more convenient to try to manage the withdrawal process by yourself, it’s important not to give in to this temptation. Withdrawal symptoms are highly unpredictable which is what can make them dangerous. Even if you do not experience severe withdrawal symptoms, you may be rendered unable to care for yourself the way that is needed during this time period which is why we strongly encourage you to not attempt this process by yourself.

How Long Does Alcohol Detox Last?

The majority of our clients spend at least one week in a detox program. In most cases, your withdrawal symptoms will usually set in within a few hours of the time that you consumed your last drink. Although the beginning of your withdrawal symptoms may feel mild, they will usually escalate in severity between the second and the third day.

A detox facility will continuously monitor your symptoms during the course of your stay there. Based on what you are experiencing, we will be able to coordinate with that facility when it comes to the timing of transitioning you into a program at The Source.

What to Expect During Alcohol Detox?

One of the common questions that we receive from clients that are considering going through a detox program revolves around what they can expect during their time at the facility. It’s important to remember that your needs and the needs of another client may be different, therefore, it’s impossible to precisely predict what you may experience when you go to a detox facility.

Common examples of withdrawal symptoms can include nausea, shakiness, or an increase in anxiety. However, depending on the severity and duration of your addiction, you may experience stronger symptoms that could result in serious consequences such as a seizure. When you go a detox facility, you have the peace of mind of knowing that you are under the care of professionals who have experience in caring for patients that are working through the detox process. You can rest assured that the team at the detox facilities that we use will do everything that they can to ensure that you are in good hands throughout the course of your detox.

What Happens After Alcohol Detox?

Once you are no longer under the influence of alcohol, you can then move forward with completely committing yourself to a treatment program at The Source. We provide our clients with a variety of treatment program opportunities that include the choice to work through either a PHP rehab in West Palm Beach or outpatient programs. When you first come to The Source, we will perform a full psychological and physical exam to ensure that you are in good health so that you can begin your program. From there, our team will collaborate with you to be able to work out the details of your specific treatment program.

In many cases, if you have gone through a detox program, we will recommend that you consider enrolling in our partial hospitalization program. The reason for this is that this type of program will provide you with the around-the-clock care that you experienced during the course of your detox program. This is part of what makes our partial hospitalization program the ideal transition from detox into treatment.

It’s understandable, however, that you may not have the flexibility to commit to a partial hospitalization program which is what makes an outpatient program a suitable alternative. We will coordinate with you regarding the days and times that you will come to our Fort Lauderdale facility to receive care. Patients that decide to enroll in our general outpatient program will take part in at least three hours of group therapy per week as well as a minimum of an hour of individual therapy. We will help you to focus and manage the traumatic experiences in your life that may have triggered your addiction and provide you with the tools that you need to overcome them.

Remember, when you first call in and speak to a member of our team, he or she will be able to provide you with more information about our programs and what you can expect when you come to our Fort Lauderdale facility.

A member of The Source team is available around the clock to begin your recovery journey. We have partnered with a number of detox facilities in and around the West Palm Beach area. From there, we can help you to start the process of enrolling in one of our treatment plans. Don’t wait another day to reach out for the help that you need.
