Regardless of how old you are, going through any type of trauma can be a life-changing experience. There are many people that experience some trauma as a child in the form of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse as a child. There are many other people that don’t go through a shocking event later in life. For example, there are many men and women that bravely volunteer to serve our country as a first responder or soldier not realizing the horrors that they may see during their service.

If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction, call The Source today.  Our treatment specialists are available 24/7 to discuss your options and help you find the perfect solution (800) 204-0418.

At The Source Treatment Center, we believe that the development of an addiction to drugs or alcohol is the result of experiencing some form of trauma. Whether it took place in your childhood or during your adult years, this experience could trigger emotions that you may not have been able to deal with by yourself. In order to numb these emotions, you may have started down the path of addiction.

Our team helps you to identify these events in your life so that you can take the steps that you need to be able to overcome them. We will help you do this by putting together a treatment plan that includes a variety of therapeutic techniques including trauma-based therapy.

What is Trauma Based Therapy Like?

At The Source, we provide our clients from Miami and all over the country with the chance to participate in several forms of trauma therapy. Based on your treatment plan, we will integrate one, two, or all of these types of counseling. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy is the first form of therapy offered at The Source. The premise behind this approach is that a client will begin to relive specific experiences during short periods. Over time, the negative effects of the trauma will begin to subside and make the event easier to process.

The next form of therapy that we offer is called traumatic incident reduction therapy. These sessions take place in a one-on-one setting and they usually last anywhere between 60 and 90 minutes. This therapy can be particularly helpful for clients that are suffering from depression and PTSD. We don’t set a timeframe when it comes to narrowing down the number of sessions that you may require. Instead, will evaluate your progress and make the decision on future sessions at that time.

Rapid resolution therapy, also referred to as RRT, is another form of cutting-edge trauma-based therapy that has been shown to work well among those that are struggling with addiction. Typically, when a client may make the subconscious decision not to deal with a certain event in their life simply because it is too painful to remember. If we determine that you are a prime candidate to participate in this form of therapy, a member of our team will lead you through anywhere between two to six sessions of RRT which includes a form of hypnosis in order to help you work through the painful emotions that are you may be experiencing with relation to that event.

Of course, we will also incorporate traditional forms of therapy that will play into your treatment plans such as group therapy and individual therapy. If you have ever attended a 12 step meeting in the past, you will notice that group therapy closely follows the model of a 12 step meeting. During these sessions, you will have the opportunity to share your opinions regarding the subject at hand which will circulate around sobriety, recovery, and addiction. In turn, you will listen to other people in your group in hopes of developing your own understanding of the subject matter as well as build your own system of support.

Individual therapy, on the other hand, allows you to meet with one of our counselors in a more personalized setting. It’s understandable that you may not feel comfortable talking about experiences, including traumatic ones, in a group setting. Individual therapy allows you to interact with a member of our team regarding how you feel as your recovery progresses and make any adjustments that you may need to your treatment plan.
