The Family Place

For Pregnant Women & Women with Small Children

Welcome to The Family Place, an addiction treatment center focused on pregnant women and women with small children. Fully recognized by the Joint Commission and the Florida Department of Children and Families, The Family Place is one of the very few addiction treatment centers in The USA, to focus solely on pregnant women and moms with young children.

We strongly believe that young women recovering from addiction have a higher rate of success and long term recovery when their babies or young children accompany them through treatment. Both clients and staff share as a family, in the joys and the pains that are part of recovery.

We don’t judge anybody. And regardless of what someone may have done while using, we are all sisters and brothers at The Family Place. We foster a family atmosphere of unconditional love.

Pregnant and Addicted

As most of us know, addiction is a progressive, chronic medical disease. Symptoms are characterized by cravings, compulsive behavior, harmful side effects, and relapse. Addiction poses severe risks for pregnant women and their unborn babies, up to and including death. Co-occurring mental health disorders, which commonly accompany addiction, also present unique healthcare challenges. Trauma, depression, eating disorders, and several other co-occurring conditions can endanger a pregnant mother-to-be and cause physical changes that negatively affect her unborn child’s development and well-being. A partial list of potential birth-defects includes:

  • Premature labor and birth
  • Miscarriage and stillbirth
  • Neonatal Abstinence or Postnatal Withdrawal Syndrome – NAS/PWS
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Low birth weight
  • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Treatment at The Family Place

Treatment programs at The Family Place are focused solely on the needs of pregnant women and moms with young children. To treat clients from varying backgrounds, our programs utilize all appropriate levels of treatment and care. Given that each person in recovery is unique and has varying requirements, we create individualized plans for each client using proven strategies, therapies, and techniques.

Upon admission, all clients undergo a thorough medical and psychosocial assessment. Each individual’s medical and psychological history is reviewed. Any current symptoms that may be negatively impacting a clients’ ability to function daily are extensively examined and considered.
