The Source believes in providing trauma-informed care, meaning they don’t just treat the addiction, clients have access to quick and effective trauma therapies that have been shown to greatly decrease symptoms associated with trauma.  Treating trauma in conjunction with the addiction gives clients a clear head in which to make decisions going forward, and allows them to fully focus on beating their addiction.  The most widely used trauma therapies at The Source are EMDR, TIR, and RRT.  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming (EMDR)  involves recalling memories about traumatic events while an experienced therapist guides your eye movements.  Research has shown that when eye contact is diverted while painful memories are recalled, your brain will learn not to perceive these memories as a threat, and as a result it won’t trigger a physiological response.  Traumatic Incident Response (TIR) is another great, individual trauma therapy provided at The Source.  Developed in the 1980s by Dr. Frank Gerbode, TIR was designed as a welcoming and non-judgmental form of therapy that decreases stress clients experience surrounding certain events that elicit physical or emotional pain.  Rapid Resolution Therapy is a form of hypnosis in which a trained therapist will guide you in identifying negative behaviors or thoughts that occur from traumatic experiences and learn to replace those with positive ones.

Each of these trauma therapies have been studied extensively and have been shown to quickly and effectively help people heal from their trauma.  Addressing trauma in drug or alcohol rehab is a crucial piece to treating the overall person.  Trauma, just as drugs and alcohol, change the way our brain processes information and responds to things in our environment, so treating both is essential to success in recovery.  Trauma therapy is combined with more traditional therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and group therapies to produce the greatest impact to recovery.

As this woman shared in her testimony, the staff at The Source take great pride in their work and strive to make everyone feel right at home.  Their gorgeous, tranquil facility is just a mile from the sandy beaches of Fort Lauderdale beach and weekend trips to the beach are sure to do just that.  For more information on addiction or trauma therapy at The Source, please call (800) 204-0418 or visit them online at www.thesourcetreatmentcenter.com
